Diana Persaud: Oracle Developer

Diana Persaud: Oracle Developer‘Help to automate Suriname’

Diana has always been a good student. In secondary school (MULO) she was the best of her year. “Even then I knew I would continue in engineering. I liked mathematics and physics best.” A boring teacher caused her to drop physics. “But after a transition year of physics at university I was able to enroll at the technical faculty, with the Information Technology orientation. I never regretted that.”

Bootcamp

After her final project she immediately joined Qualogy Suriname. “Of course I had some holiday jobs during my studies. But while I still was working on my final project I got an e-mail about the opening at Qualogy. It seemed like a marvellous challenge, so I replied at once.” During Bootcamp she found the Oracle Developer specialization period the most interesting. “There are só many tools that Oracle works and develops with. In an extremely short time I learned very much about everything that is possible.  I can utilize that perfectly for our customers. But I still have many new things to learn as well, and that is fascinating.”

Culture document

What about the company? “The atmosphere and the way of working are especially appealing to me. It is enjoyable, colleagues help each other and we make jokes. It is important to get along well with your colleagues. Qualogy Suriname even has a ‘culture document’. It lists our principles for internal cooperation and customer contact.” Which of those items appeal to her the most? “First of all ‘honesty’, the fact that we don’t talk about but with each other. Also ‘future-oriented’, to pay constant attention on innovation, to absorb and apply new technology. And finally ‘encourage each other’, to stimulate your colleagues to put forward even better solutions. But in fact all items are important, there are more than twenty.”

What will Diana do the next few years? “I definitely want to utilize the knowledge I acquired as an Oracle Developer, and achieve good results with that. For example at Rosebel Gold Mines. They use Oracle a lot, and it would be interesting not to work in the town for a change.” And in the long run, say in five years? “Then I want to be able to say that I master my profession and that I’m an experienced consultant. I hope someday I can say that we helped to automate Suriname.”
